LEARN TO ICE DANCE

Ice dance is a form of skating that came out of ballroom dancing, and still shares many of the same elements – but all done on ice!

Ice dance is performed both with a partner and solo. It is great for freestylers, synchronized skaters, hockey players, as well as new skaters.

The Hickory Hill Sunday session is home to national, international and Olympic-level ice dance coaches, who offer private lessons and group classes.

How to learn more and get started

Chris and Cathy Reed help out at Hickory Hill on Sunday mornings, where they instruct adult beginning ice dancers.  "Cathy and I go to Katonah every Sunday when we’re not traveling.  Although, it is about an hour and a half drive from our house, we love going there to help out!" reports Chris. Cathy adds, "What I love most about Katonah is that everyone there is like one family.  Everyone is so nice and so willing to learn new things.  It is just a warm and wonderful learning environment.  It is definitely interesting to see how everyone progresses with our instruction."

Hickory Hill has become one of those unexpected joys in my life – not only because of the thrill of learning to dance on the ice, but also the pleasure of lasting friendships and the charm of a supportive, family-like atmosphere. I never imagined that I’d be doing this regularly as an adult, especially since I disliked ice skating as kid!

The Hickory Hill ice dance community is unique, in several respects. It is comprised of skaters of all ages and abilities, including current competitors, from all over the tri-State area; the members are warm, caring, creative people - interested in the sport, interested in learning more, and welcoming to new members; our coaches include many national and international medal winners. This is an exciting, energetic group - that I feel fortunate to be part of.
