Skating for Everyone

The Hickory Hill Figure Skating Club (HHFSC) was founded in the early 1970s at the Harvey School rink in Northern Westchester. The club has been active since its inception, having produced many successful synchronized teams and events like "Broadway on Ice," Ice Dance weekends, Skate Hickory, and the Ruth Caley Memorial Basic Skills Competitions. The club's emphasis on ice dancing and freestyle skating has resulted in the development of many gold medalists, national competitors, and judges, all of whom are inscribed in the "Hickory Hill Gold Medalists Hall of Fame."

When the Palisades Center Ice Rink in West Nyack, NY, was built, they contacted HHFSC to sponsor their Learn-to-Skate Basic Skills program, which continues to this day. The club is a member of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA), the governing body of figure skating in the U.S. As part of joining HHFSC, members also become members of the USFSA and receive a subscription to "Skating" magazine. The volunteer efforts of club members serve as the "staff" of skating clubs.

HHFSC's Sunday morning ice dance sessions in Katonah, NY, are open to ice dancers of all ability levels, from children to people in their 70s. While many of our skaters are working on the steps of the "set pattern" dances, all are working on basic skating skills like turns, edges, balance, and posture. The club's coaching staff works with skaters at all levels.

HHFSC welcomes anyone interested in figure skating and ice dancing, whether you have skated in the past or think it might be a fun recreational activity to try, or even if you are a skater visiting from out of the area. You can come for one session or several, but you must bring your own skates as no rentals are available. At the Palisades Ice Center in W. Nyack, NY, members primarily consist of children working on the Basic Skills Program or freestyle skills at public sessions. HHFSC membership allows them to take USFSA tests and participate in other USFSA events.
